Laura founded Koupal Law Firm, P.C. in 2012, and holds the highest possible “AV-Preeminent” rating for legal ethics and ability from Martindale Hubble. She was featured in 5280 Magazine/Colorado Super Lawyers in 2010, 2011, 2013-2016 as a “Rising Star.” Laura began her legal career over eighteen years ago and has represented over one thousand clients in assisted reproductive technology matters, complex divorce litigation, non-traditional and LGBTQ+ family formation and dissolution, adoption and estate planning matters. Laura also completed a one-year clerkship with the Honorable Christina M. Habas of Denver District Court following law school.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado and a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys, a select group of attorneys with rigorous standards for membership. She is also a professional Member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and RESOLVE, a Member of the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section and the Denver Bar Association, and a Member of the American Bar Association Assisted Reproductive Technology Committee. Laura accepts adoption pro bono clients through Metro Volunteer Lawyers. Laura regularly writes and speaks on the issues of family law and assisted reproductive technology law.
Laura is currently a volunteer with the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel and is also serving as the Chairperson for the Best Practices Committee for the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys.
Laura worked with Colorado colleagues to draft and successfully lobby the passage of Colorado Surrogacy Act signed by Governor Polis on May 6, 2021.

They take great joy and satisfaction in assisting individuals and couples who want to build their families. They have handled over 400 assisted reproduction cases, representing prospective parents, gestational carriers, surrogates, egg donors and egg donation agencies.
Judith Hoechst’s law practice is devoted to reproductive law. A former medical malpractice attorney, she changed the focus of her law practice to assisted reproductive technology (ART) law after a gestational surrogate carried her son in 2004. Experienced in drafting and reviewing surrogacy contracts, egg/sperm/embryo donation contracts, obtaining parentage orders, and acting as liaison between intended parents and birth hospitals, she works diligently with her clients so that the legal process of each ART journey is completed with confidence. Judith has been admitted to the State Bars of Ohio, New Mexico and Colorado.
As a private practitioner, I have close working relationships with fertility clinics, family medicine doctors, and ob-gyn practices in the Denver area. Since 2003, I have provided psychological consultations for clients interested in using third party reproductive assistance and I have extensive experience screening donors and gestational carriers. For many of my clients, I have provided continuity of psychological care from pre-conception, pregnancy, birth to parenthood- including providing support and guidance for families created through donor conception.
